Overview
NICHE began in 1989 as an engineering college founded by Dr. A.P. Majeed Khan and was granted Deemed-to-be-University status by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in December 2008. Based in the foothills of the Western Ghats near Kanyakumari, it has grown into a multi-disciplinary university spanning engineering, science, management, commerce, allied health sciences, media, and (from 2026-27) law. It's known for niche technical specializations most colleges don't offer — marine engineering with an on-campus training ship, aircraft maintenance with real aircraft on site, and its own satellite (NIUSAT) built and launched with ISRO in 2017.

Three hostels: Gents Hostel, Ladies Hostel, Marine Boys Hostel. Room types: AC (single/double), Deluxe (single/double), Normal. Mess seating: 300 (Boys), 100 (Marine Boys), 250 (Girls). Amenities: AC gym, 24-hr ATM (TMB Bank), veg/non-veg dining hall, stationery store, dry-cleaning, reading room, yoga centre, CCTV, in-hostel canteens, Aquaguard hot/cold/normal water, 24-hr medical assistance, backup power, security guards, prayer halls, recreation rooms, TV lounges, Wi-Fi, and sports courts.
